The Herault river

Canoe Rental - Kayak Rental in the Herault gorges.

The Herault is a river of southern France. Its length is 148 kilometers and its source is on the slopes of the Mount Aigoual in the Cevennes mountains. It reaches the Mediterranean sea near Agde.

This virulent river has forged spectacular gorges in the mountains and hills. The difference in height in the first 10 kilometers is about 1000 meters wich make it very special.

As you canoe down, you will discover the many historical sites, medieval villages, ancient works of art, mills and bridges.

Trip 1:From St Bauzille de Putois to Barrage de la Vernede

Distance:7km. Age:6 years and upwards. Duration: 3 hours

A beautiful trip were you can learn and discover without technical difficulties with plenty of small rapids
This trip will delight both beginners, families or for those who would like to enjoy their descent taking breaks swimming and relaxing.

Trip 2: From Ganges to Barrage de la Vernede

Distance:14km. Age:11 years and upwards. Duration: 5 hours

This trip is the most active in the Herault. For the first half there are quite a few technical rapids throughout. You will then arrive at the heart of gorges and through the village of Laroque, there you will pass over a slide stone. The second part corresponds to trip 1. At some points on the river it may become bad when the water level is low. Not recommended for beginners or non-athletic.

Trip 3: The night. From St Bauzille de Putois to Barrage de la Vernede

Distance:12km. Age:5 years and upwards. Duration:4h

This trip corresponds with trip one but on the night and lit by the moon light. Original, easy and great with friends. You will be accompanied by one of our instructors and served refreshments during the descent. After a hot summer’s day, there is nothing like this cocktail of freshness served under the stars. There is an opportunity to camp at the end of the descent.

Trip 4:From Ganges to combe des corps (St Guilhem-le désert)

Distance:20 ou 26km. Age:5 years and upwards . Duration: 2 days with 1 night bivouac

This Trip includes two days of navigation. The Hérault in all its splendor and overnight camping under the stars. The first day of this adventure is to trip 1 or trip 2. (Optional) The 2nd day will take you on the wildest part of the Hérault. Once committed, there is no more access by road to the finish, hence its name “The valley lost”. A physical challenge and an adventure which you will never forget.

We organize canoe trips down the Gorge of the Herault river only for groups.

You can canoe on your own or have a trained guide accompany you.

We will be happy to welcome you and strongly recommend you book in advance.

April-May-June-September-October : You can rent canoes and/or be accompanied by a trained guide.

July-August : Groups only accompanied by a trained guide.
